Dear Family,

about

I wrote and recorded it in the early stages of lockdown in a little bedroom set up I had. It was a challenge to approach every instrument and recording in the confines of what I had. But that's the fun of it!

The track was then mixed by Ryan K Brennan (Julia Jacklin, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Georgia Mulligan).

‘Dear Family,’ is definitely my most personal and most literal song to date, kind of acting as an apology to my family for the sporadic, stressful and uncertain life I've been leading. It might not be the life they had in mind, but I'm hoping the song is proof that the struggle will be worth it in the end.

Life can throw you curve balls and can be undeniably tough sometimes but even in the dankest, unkempt corners there is sunshine and beauty.

So...If any of you feel this and the phone's to hard to dial. I'll hug and hold and kiss you and we'll keep each other alive.

I would like to acknowledge the Cadigal-Wangal people of the Eora Nation. The traditional custodians of the land on which this single was recorded. I pay my respects to their elders past and present. I understand that sovereignty was never ceded.

Iain T. McKelvey Sydney, Australia

Iain T. McKelvey blends elements of folk, blues, country and classic rock with a penchant for over-thinking. I want to move your feet and soften the blow of the existential horror of existence.
